Interim Management
Just another name for a glorified temp or a true niche management specialism?
Over the last few years the term Interim management has become a bit of a catch all phrase to cover a whole range of non-permanent appointments. In its true form it relates to the provision of seasoned professional managers to undertake specific short-term, or at least fixed-term assignments, quite often at relatively short notice. An established category in many other sectors it is perhaps still a little underutilised in the fresh produce and horticultural sectors.
However, one of the things that interim management recognises is that none of us can be good at everything and interims are particularly good at getting things done – they are on the whole action oriented individuals who thrive on achievement and imparting their knowledge and expertise on the people they are working with.
Some of the situations that that an interim manager could be of specific use are:
- Project Management – using their expertise whilst the current management team cope with all the day to day issues e.g. relocation, new build or IT systems project.
- Gap management – filling the recruitment void between someone leaving and a new permanent replacement starting or covering for long-term sick leave.
- Change management where a company is going through significant cultural or organisational change and an outside and impartial voice can help existing management implement things more smoothly.
At MorePeople we have a number of experienced professionals on our interim register that can help companies with all these types of issue.
