​Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending another wet Festival of Fresh hosted by G’s Fresh, and once again it proved why it is one of the standout events in the fresh produce calendar.

The event brought together suppliers, retailers, hauliers, service providers, and industry professionals from across the supply chain, creating an excellent platform to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and explore the opportunities that lie ahead for our industry.

As a recruiter specialising in the food and fresh produce sectors, one of the most rewarding aspects of the day was the opportunity to spend time with both clients and candidates, gaining a real insight into the issues businesses are currently facing and the skills that are increasingly in demand.

There was a real focus on innovation throughout the event, from advancements in production and packaging to discussions around sustainability, food waste reduction, automation, and the use of technology to improve efficiency and product quality. It was encouraging to see so many businesses investing in the future while remaining committed to delivering safe, high-quality products to consumers.

What stood out most was the positivity and resilience across the sector. Despite ongoing pressures around labour, costs, supply chain challenges, and changing consumer demands, the passion and determination within the fresh produce industry remains stronger than ever. The willingness of businesses to collaborate, share ideas, and support one another is one of the things that makes this industry so unique.

The conversations I had throughout the day also reinforced the importance of people. Behind every successful business are talented individuals working across Technical, Quality, Production, NPD, Engineering, Operations, Commercial, and Supply Chain functions. As the industry continues to evolve, attracting, developing, and retaining the right talent will be critical to driving future success.

It was fantastic to reconnect with familiar faces, strengthen existing relationships, and make new connections with professionals from across the sector. These events are a reminder that while technology, innovation, and investment are important, our industry is ultimately built on relationships and people.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to stop for a chat, share their experiences, and discuss their plans for the future. I came away with plenty of new ideas, valuable insights, and a renewed appreciation for the incredible work being done across the fresh produce industry.

The quality of the speakers, discussions, and networking opportunities was outstanding, and it was great to have a look at G’s facilities and to get out to the fields and see some crops being planted and harvested.
