The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers is delighted to invite applications for its new Mentoring Programme, a significant investment in the development of current and future talent across the fresh produce sector.
At every stage of their careers, successful people benefit from the guidance, perspective and encouragement of those who have travelled a similar path before them. Through this programme, selected mentees will have the opportunity to build a one-to-one relationship with an experienced industry professional, gaining access to insights, networks and support that can help accelerate their personal and professional development.
Developed in partnership with TwoCan, a leading mentoring specialist, the programme reflects the Fruiterers' longstanding commitment to nurturing excellence, supporting individuals with potential, and strengthening the future of our industry.
Who should apply?
We are looking for ambitious individuals who are committed to developing their career within the fresh produce sector, and who would benefit from the support of an experienced mentor.
Applicants may include:
Early-career professionals looking to broaden their skills and confidence.
Individuals with several years' experience who are preparing for greater responsibility or leadership opportunities.
Career changers who have joined the sector and would value guidance as they establish themselves.
Emerging talent and future leaders seeking support, challenge, and encouragement, as they progress their careers.
Above all, we are looking for people with the enthusiasm and commitment to make the most of this opportunity.
What does the programme involve?
The programme begins with induction and training sessions for both mentors and mentees. These sessions ensure that everyone starts with a shared understanding of the mentoring process, expectations and objectives, helping each partnership to get off to the strongest possible start.
TwoCan will then facilitate the matching process, carefully pairing mentees with mentors based on experience, aspirations and development goals.
The formal programme runs for an initial six-month period during which:
Mentor and mentee pairs will meet regularly, agreeing a format and schedule that works best for both parties.
Meetings may take place in person, online, or through a combination of both.
Access to the community hub and monthly CPD webinars
TwoCan will provide regular check-ins and ongoing support throughout the programme.
Should a mentoring relationship not meet the needs of either party, support will be available to review and, where appropriate, adjust the match.
At the conclusion of the initial, supported, six months, participants will have the opportunity to continue their mentoring relationship.
What is expected of mentees?
Mentoring is most successful when mentees actively engage in the process. Successful applicants will therefore be expected to:
Attend the programme induction and training sessions.
Commit time and energy to building a productive mentoring relationship.
Be open to feedback, reflection and personal development.
Take ownership of their goals and development journey.
Communicate honestly and constructively throughout the programme.
Financial Commitment:
The cost for the programme is £500 per mentee. Where genuine need is identified, the Fruiterers Foundation has committed funding to ensure that financial circumstances do not become a barrier to participation. This rate applies to alumni of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, as TwoCan are a partner of our Foundation, supporting our charitable objectives. This special charity rate sees a 65% discount on the normal commercial rates, so is an opportunity not to be missed.
