Our First FDF Industry Awards: What We Took Away From the Night
For the first time, the MorePeople team attended the FDF Industry Awards, bringing together people from across the food and drink industry for an evening of celebration, recognition and plenty of conversation.
For us, it was more than simply attending an awards ceremony. It was an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and spend time with the wider food and drink community, meeting the people and businesses we work with, speak to and support throughout the year.
And, as first-time attendees, it was great to experience the event for ourselves.
A night celebrating the food and drink industry
Held at Troxy in London, the FDF Industry Awards brought together a broad mix of professionals from across the sector, including manufacturing, supply chain, technical, operations, commercial and senior leadership.
The scale and variety of businesses represented was a real reflection of just how broad the food and drink industry is.
What stood out most, however, was the focus on the people behind those businesses.
Award evenings can sometimes become all about the trophies, but the FDF Industry Awards provide a chance to recognise the teams, individuals and businesses contributing to the industry's success every day.
From innovation and sustainability to leadership and manufacturing excellence, the evening highlighted the range of work taking place across the sector.
Why events like this matter to MorePeople
At MorePeople, we spend every day working with businesses across food and drink, helping them find the people and leadership they need to grow and succeed.
A big part of that is understanding the industry we're working in and, more importantly, understanding the people within it.
That's why being at events like the FDF Industry Awards is valuable.
There is a big difference between speaking to someone over email, joining a Teams call or connecting on LinkedIn, and actually sitting down with them and having a conversation.
The awards gave us the opportunity to put faces to names, meet new people and strengthen existing relationships in a much more informal setting.
It also reinforced something we already know: being part of the food and drink community means more than simply recruiting into it. It's about understanding the challenges businesses are facing, keeping close to the people working within the industry and playing an active role in the wider sector.
The people make the event
For us, the conversations were one of the biggest highlights of the evening.
We had the chance to meet new contacts, catch up with familiar faces and, in some cases, finally meet people we'd previously only known through LinkedIn.
After spending time building connections ahead of the event, it was particularly rewarding to see those relationships move from online conversations to real conversations in the room.
The breadth of people attending also made for some genuinely interesting discussions.
There were conversations around the current challenges facing businesses, the importance of attracting and retaining great people, changes across manufacturing and operations, and the opportunities ahead for the sector.
None of it felt particularly like networking for the sake of networking. It was simply people from across the industry getting together, sharing experiences and enjoying an evening together.
That's often where the most useful conversations happen.
Celebrating innovation, leadership and excellence
Of course, the awards themselves were a major part of the evening.
The winners and finalists demonstrated the range of talent, innovation and leadership that exists across food and drink, with recognition across areas including manufacturing, sustainability, innovation and business performance.
What we particularly enjoyed was seeing the people behind those achievements recognised.
Successful businesses don't happen without successful teams, and the evening was a good reminder of the contribution made by people at every level of an organisation.
Whether it's someone leading a major business, improving performance on a manufacturing site, developing new products or finding more sustainable ways of working, the industry continues to be driven by people who are making a difference.
What we're taking away
Our first FDF Industry Awards was a great reminder of the strength of the food and drink community.
The sector continues to evolve, but the importance of great people remains constant.
For us, the evening reinforced the value of building genuine relationships across the industry and staying close to the businesses and people we work with.
It was also a good opportunity to celebrate an industry that we are proud to work in every day.
We're looking forward to continuing the conversations started at the awards, building on the new connections we've made and staying involved in the wider food and drink community.
A big thank you to the Food and Drink Federation for putting together such a brilliant evening and for bringing so many people from across the industry together.
We'll see you next time.
