This leading international wholesale plant raising company operates from custom-built state of the art facilities in an outer suburb of Melbourne. The nursery produces starter plants and seedlings that are shipped Australia wide. They are part of a larger international horticultural company whose head office is based in the USA, and has offices throughout the world including the UK.
They are currently seeking a Head Grower with a background in propagation. This person ideally would be somebody who has held a similar position for 5 years or more. Products include seedlings, tissue culture and vegetative program, they grow around 3,500 product lines, so a complex nursery business and this needs an experienced Grower Manager to take the role on.
As a Head Grower, there will be 3 Lead Growers reporting to you and a further 4 or 5 support growers.
Responsibilities will include:
Walking the crop up to identifying issues as they occur and recommend strategies to ensure crops are at the quality customers require.
Reviewing growing programs, and constantly recommending improvement.
Building close relationships with the following staff - Head of Growing, Mother Stock Coordinator, Quality Coordinator, Operations Coordinator and Agronomist.
Reporting directly to Head of Production.
For this job they are seeking a top growing candidate with:
Experience of managing a growing or propagation facility.
Training in horticulture preferably to degree level or equivalent.
Someone who can meet the requirements of the Australian Work Visa and is prepared to relocate for the role.
Salary will be circa $90,000 AUD / per annum
No company car, but they would pay for a rental for the first month or so, until the individual organized their own.
They will pay for an initial visit, and a single flight on commencement of the position on Economy Flex equivalent.
Likewise single flights for family.
There is a Superannuation, which the company provide.
We would also extend to a month in a rental or Air BnB accommodation whilst they looked for a place to rent.
