Business Development Manager

Job description

Business Development Manager

Northern England
£40,000-£45,000 + Bonus + Car/Car Allowance

Are you a proactive field salesperson who enjoys opening doors and building a territory?

Looking for an opportunity where you can combine new business development with growing established customer relationships?

This is an opportunity to join an established supplier to the garden retail sector and take responsibility for developing its presence across Northern England.

The business offers a broad range of garden products. The range is non-technical and can be taught, so attitude, sales ability and the willingness to get in front of customers are what matter most.

What's on Offer?

  • £40,000-£45,000 basic salary
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Commission on existing and new business
  • Additional monthly KPI bonus opportunity
  • Field-based role covering Northern England
  • Opportunity to take ownership of an established but developable territory

What's the Job?

You'll be responsible for managing and growing existing customers while identifying and securing new business across the region.

Day to day, you'll be:

  • Visiting customers across Northern England
  • Building relationships with independent retailers and regional groups
  • Identifying and opening new accounts
  • Developing existing customers through additional listings and seasonal opportunities
  • Presenting a broad range of garden products
  • Building and managing an active sales pipeline
  • Planning your territory and maintaining a consistent customer visit schedule
  • Working closely with the wider sales and support team
  • Attending relevant trade shows and industry events

What do I need?

  • Previous field sales, territory management or business development experience
  • A track record of winning new customers and developing existing accounts
  • A proactive approach and confidence creating your own opportunities
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • The organisation and self-motivation to manage a large territory
  • Commercial awareness and a customer-focused approach

Experience selling into garden centres or independent retailers would be useful, but it isn't essential. You might already work in garden products, homewares, DIY, pet products, gifts or another product-led sector.

What matters most is that you're a genuine salesperson who wants to get out, meet customers and grow the territory.
