Engineering Manager

Job description

Engineering / Maintenance Manager
Location: South of Bucharest, Romania (Return to Romania Opportunity)

We are supporting a major €50M+ investment into a large-scale, highly automated production facility in southern Romania. The business is well established in the region and is now entering a significant expansion and commissioning phase.

We are seeking an Engineering / Maintenance Manager with strong industrial experience, ideally gained in the UK or Western Europe, who is considering returning to Romania for a senior, hands-on leadership role with genuine site ownership.

The Role

You will take full responsibility for engineering and maintenance performance across a complex automated production environment.

This is a site-based leadership position where reliability, uptime, and practical engineering decision-making directly impact operational success. You will be the key engineering authority on site during commissioning and through full operational ramp-up.

Why this role

This is a genuine site ownership position, not a support or coordination role.

You will be responsible for:

  • Engineering performance across the full site
  • Building and shaping the maintenance strategy
  • Leading technical decisions in a live production environment
  • Developing the engineering team on site

Package

  • €3,000 - €3,500 NET per month
  • Equivalent to approximately €52,000 - €68,000 gross annually

In Romania, this represents a senior-level engineering salary with strong disposable income and lifestyle flexibility.

For candidates currently in the UK, this is a return opportunity offering significantly increased responsibility and local purchasing power, particularly in housing, transport, and day-to-day living costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planned and reactive maintenance across the site
  • Ownership of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems
  • Work with PLC-controlled equipment and process systems
  • Develop preventative and reliability-focused maintenance strategies
  • Manage critical spares and asset uptime
  • Support commissioning and operational ramp-up
  • Build and lead a small engineering team

Candidate Profile

  • Strong mechanical and electrical engineering background
  • Proven experience in UK or Western European industrial environments
  • Exposure to automated FMCG, food production, or manufacturing environments
  • Confident working with PLC systems and process control
  • Hands-on, practical, and comfortable making site-level decisions
  • Romanian national, ideally considering a return home
