Horticulture Growing & Dispatch Supervisor

Job description

Horticulture Growing & Dispatch Supervisor

Kent

£DOE + Overtime + Package

Hands-on grower with an eye for quality?

Looking for a role where the seasons keep things varied, and you can take real ownership?

This brand-new role will see you joining a long‑established horticultural nursery with a loyal customer base and a supportive, down‑to‑earth team.

If you're confident working in a commercial growing environment, enjoy leading small teams and want a varied, practical role, this could be the right move for you.

What's on offer?

  • Competitive salary
  • Overtime at time and a half after 39 hours/week
  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00-4:30, Friday: 8:00-3:30
  • Weekend work on a rota basis.
  • 23 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Pension
  • Wet weather PPE provided.
  • Optional on‑site mobile home accommodation (subject to availability)
  • A supportive, steady team where everyone mucks in and looks out for each other.

What's the job?

This is a hands‑on supervisory role that naturally shifts with the seasons - giving you great variety across the year.

Peak Season (October - March): Dispatch Focus

You'll lead the dispatch operation, ensuring plants are processed, packed and sent out in top condition.

  • Running daily dispatch and organising workload
  • Checking incoming plants from the field
  • Maintaining quality control before orders leave the site.
  • Packing, palletising, and preparing orders.
  • Loading/unloading trailers.
  • Leading a small team (1-3 people) during busy periods
  • Keeping storage and dispatch areas tidy, safe, and efficient

Off‑Peak Season (March - October): Growing Focus

As dispatch quietens down, you'll move out into the field and support technical growing.

  • Supporting crop production and general field work
  • Assisting with technical growing tasks
  • Working alongside the sprayer operator
  • Managing irrigation (solo or with support)
  • Helping with sowing, planting, and pre‑season preparation

What do I need?

  • Background in commercial plant production - trees, ornamentals, or field‑grown crops.
  • Practical growing knowledge and confidence working outdoors.
  • Hands‑on approach and willingness to do a bit of everything.
  • Tractor, FLT and PA1/PA2/PA6 desirable - but not essential
  • Some supervisory experience is ideal, but if you're ready for your first step up, they're happy to train.
  • Good attention to detail, especially around quality
  • A problem‑solving mindset and willingness to take ownership.

If you like variety, enjoy working outdoors and take pride in doing things properly, this is a role you'll thrive in.
