Lead Engineer
Job description
This one's for the engineers who are already leading from the front and want a role where they can shape standards, coach a team, and keep a fast paced factory running at its best.
The Opportunity
A major UK food production business is looking for a Lead Engineer to take ownership of engineering performance across a busy manufacturing site. You'll lead a small team on shift, drive improvements, and ensure machinery uptime through strong planning, communication, and hands on technical expertise.
The shift pattern is a straight 4 on / 4 off, 7am-7pm, giving you a consistent routine and long breaks between rotations.
Key Responsibilities
* Team leadership - guiding engineers on shift, allocating tasks, and supporting development
* PPM management - ensuring planned maintenance is completed effectively and on schedule
* CMMS oversight - maintaining accurate records, work orders, and asset histories
* Technical support - providing hands on expertise during breakdowns and complex faults
* Continuous improvement - identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and improve reliability
* Cross department communication - working closely with production, quality, and operations teams
* Coaching & development - supporting skill growth and building a high performing team culture
What You'll Need
* Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
* Experience in manufacturing or FMCG environments
* Strong understanding of PPM systems and CMMS platforms
* Previous experience leading a team, supervising, or mentoring engineers
* Confident communicator with proven coaching ability
* A proactive, organised, and solutions driven mindset
Why This Role Stands Out
This is a chance to lead from the front not just fixing machinery, but shaping the team, improving systems, and driving performance across a major production site. If you enjoy responsibility, variety, and the satisfaction of seeing your team succeed, this role delivers.
