Shift Engineer

Job description

A major UK food‑production business is seeking a Shift Engineer to support its high‑volume manufacturing site. You'll be part of a multi‑skilled engineering team keeping production lines running, solving breakdowns, and driving continuous improvement across a modern facility.

The shift pattern is a 4 on 4 off, rotating 2 days and 2 nights, giving you long stretches of time off and a predictable routine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planned maintenance on production machinery, conveyors, automation systems, and packaging equipment
  • Reactive engineering support - diagnosing faults and restoring production quickly
  • Continuous improvement - identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
  • Compliance & safety - ensuring all work meets site standards and audit requirements
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with production, quality, and operations teams

What You'll Need

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification (mechanical, electrical, or multi‑skilled)
  • Previous experience in food, manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar high‑speed production environment
  • Strong fault‑finding skills and confidence working under pressure
  • A proactive approach to engineering and a commitment to high standards
