Job description
A major UK food‑production business is seeking a Shift Engineer to support its high‑volume manufacturing site. You'll be part of a multi‑skilled engineering team keeping production lines running, solving breakdowns, and driving continuous improvement across a modern facility.
The shift pattern is a 4 on 4 off, rotating 2 days and 2 nights, giving you long stretches of time off and a predictable routine.
Key Responsibilities
- Planned maintenance on production machinery, conveyors, automation systems, and packaging equipment
- Reactive engineering support - diagnosing faults and restoring production quickly
- Continuous improvement - identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
- Compliance & safety - ensuring all work meets site standards and audit requirements
- Cross‑functional collaboration with production, quality, and operations teams
What You'll Need
- Level 3 Engineering qualification (mechanical, electrical, or multi‑skilled)
- Previous experience in food, manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar high‑speed production environment
- Strong fault‑finding skills and confidence working under pressure
- A proactive approach to engineering and a commitment to high standards
What's on Offer
- £46,000-£54,000, depending on experience
- 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights)
- Long‑term stability with a respected employer
- Opportunities to broaden your skill set across a wide range of factory equipment
Why This Role Stands Out
If you enjoy variety, autonomy, and the satisfaction of keeping a busy production site running smoothly, this role gives you the platform to make a real impact, and the shift pattern gives you the work‑life balance to enjoy your time off.
