The Challenge
Elsoms Seeds Ltd is one of the UK's leading independent seed businesses, specialising in plant breeding, seed production, processing, and marketing across the agricultural and amenity sectors. The company develops and supplies high-performing varieties of cereals, oilseeds, forage, pulses, and turf grass, working closely with growers, merchants, and distributors throughout the UK and internationally. With a strong focus on innovation and research, Elsoms supports sustainable crop production through advanced breeding programmes and seed technology.
Following an introduction at an industry event, alongside an established relationship between Elsoms and MorePeople, we partnered with Toby Reich to recruit a Commercial Assistant. As our conversations progressed, it became clear that the business was entering a pivotal period of growth and transformation, creating the need for further strategic hires. Building on the success of the initial appointment, Hannah went on to support Elsoms with three additional key appointments, helping to strengthen the team during a significant stage in the company's development.
The Approach
By leveraging targeted market mapping, an extensive network across not just the agricultural sector, but the seed sector too, and proactive search techniques, we compiled a carefully curated list of candidates who combined the right qualities with the necessary technical expertise and sector experience.
Working closely with Elsoms, we then narrowed this down to a high-calibre shortlist and supported the selected candidates through a structured interview process, which included thorough referencing.
With a close working relationship, I was able to consult on the candidates' suitability for the role – not just in terms of being able to actually do the job, but also their personality fit to the team and wider business.
The result was four successful appointments during a pivotal period of change, helping Elsoms continue to build one of the strongest agricultural teams in the UK seed industry.
