About Our Client
Our client is a fast-growing garden retailer with a fantastic reputation for quality products and exceptional service. They offer a fantastic range to their customers and have seen a period of phenomenal growth in recent years. Bedding is an area where they see massive potential and they are keen to develop their offering in this area further. The team are all very friendly and the culture of the business is relaxed and casual - you will often find a dog or two roaming around the office and the team are rarely suited and booted. They do, however, all work hard and roll up their sleeves to deliver for their customers. They have some great reporting tools to focus on the numbers and have a transparent and open communication style.
About the Role
This role will lead the bedding category into significant growth. You will utilise your horticulture supply chain knowledge to identify supplier growing partners, ranges, promotions etc to deliver commercial results for the business. You will work closely with the buying, growing, and management teams to build sustainable business plans. Your experience will aid you in conducting regular SWOT analysis to stay on top of the latest trends in the market. The range you deliver will add value to the customers and be very focused on quality to keep customers coming back year after year. You will plan well in advance, the 2023 season is next on the agenda.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will have a garden retail buying background and a strong knowledge of bedding plants. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to build a range of products that focus on quality and which add value to the customers. Your knowledge of the bedding supply chain will mean that you can identify supplier partners for the range of stock you require. Your analytical and planning skills will ensure you build robust business plans to enable effective promotional activity and exceptional value. You will be driven to deliver and a self-starter who can work autonomously. You will be willing to roll up your sleeves when required and help the buying and growing team members to get the job done.
To be considered for this role, as a minimum, you will need to have significant knowledge of the UK horticulture supply chain and bedding plants. You will be able to plan effectively and deliver commercial results within a garden retail environment. You will be willing to travel to suppliers and growers to build relationships and growing plans. You will be self-motivated and a team player.
The successful applicant will move through a two-stage interview process, which will include a tour of the nursery and a presentation.
