Horticulture Specialist
Job description
Horticulture Specialist
Hertfordshire | Full-time | Permanent | £25,000 - £30,200
Do you live and breathe plants?
We're on the lookout for a passionate Horticulture Specialist to join one of the UK's leading commercial nurseries. This is your chance to roll up your sleeves, get hands-on with high-quality crops, and play a vital role in keeping thousands of plants healthy, happy, and ready for customers.
Whether you're crop walking, training colleagues, or helping to pick and prep orders, this role gives you variety, responsibility, and the chance to really grow (pun intended!) your horticultural skills
What You'll Be Doing
- Caring for crops across the nursery, from watering and feeding to spotting pests and diseases early
- Supporting your team to keep plant stock in peak condition
- Helping to prepare and pick customer orders, making sure quality always comes first
- Keeping records up to date (digital & manual) to track plant movements
- Playing a role in plant protection programmes and integrated stock management
- Pitching in with loading/unloading plants and stock movements
- Working closely with managers to deliver exceptional customer service and standards
No two days are the same - one day you could be crop walking and spotting plant issues, the next you could be setting out new stock or helping fulfil big customer orders.
What We're Looking For
- A solid understanding of horticulture, nursery production, or plant care (training available for the right person)
- A team player who can support colleagues while also using your own initiative
- Strong attention to detail - you'll have an eye for spotting plant health issues before they become problems
- Happy to get stuck in with practical tasks, outdoors and in all weathers
- Willing to learn, develop and take on new skills (PA1/PA6 or other horticultural qualifications are a bonus)
Why You'll Love This Role
- Work with an established, respected UK nursery growing high-quality ornamental plants
- Be part of a friendly, passionate team where your input really matters
- Get hands-on experience across all areas of nursery production - no two days are the same
- Real opportunities for training, development, and career progression
- Competitive salary plus benefits
