Part-Time Bookkeeper
Location: St Albans
Salary: £16.50 per hour (DOE)
Hours: 21 hours per week, over 3 or 4 days (flexible)

We're currently recruiting on behalf of a long-standing, family-run garden centre that plays a key role in its local community. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Bookkeeper seeking a stable, part-time role within a friendly and supportive environment.

Our client has built a reputation for quality, customer care, and a strong team culture. They are now looking for a dedicated Bookkeeper to support their Finance Manager in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business.

The Role

The successful candidate will take ownership of a broad range of accounting tasks and support the month-end and compliance process. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys variety and values working in a close-knit team where their contribution truly makes a difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full bookkeeping up to Trial Balance
  • Posting journal entries and reconciling intercompany charges
  • Bank reconciliations and month-end processes
  • Preparing and submitting payroll, including timesheets and staff expenses
  • Setting up authorised payments
  • Budgeting and cash flow forecasting
  • Assisting with HMRC compliance and general financial reporting

About You

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar bookkeeping role
  • Qualified to AAT Level 3 (or qualified by experience)
  • Confident user of Sage 50 and Excel
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and manage your time effectively
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and payroll processes
  • A methodical and consistent approach to following procedures
