An ambitious Planning Consultant required to join expanding, forward thinking, multi-disciplinary, regional development advisory and agency team based in Scotland. The principal focus will be Central and Eastern Scotland; however for the right opportunity, the work could be in other areas within Scotland and the North of England.

The professional team of planning and development experts cover the main regions in the country where there is forecast housing growth, working closely with valuation, residential/new homes, rural and commercial business lines.

The Job:

Working closely with the Head of Planning and the wider Development team primarily in the residential and mixed-use sectors.

Identifying, analysing and reporting to landowner clients on development opportunities within their land holdings.

Promoting land through the strategic planning process on behalf of landowners, house builders, promoters and investors, securing allocations, in-principle and detailed consents, negotiating Section 75 agreements, dealing with planning and legal appeals and other dispute processes.

Providing development management advice, working with clients, architects and other professionals to promote planning and listed building consents and undertake appeals on behalf of private clients, regional and national house builders, developers and promoters.

The Candidate:

Professionally qualified MRICS/MRTPI with at least 2 years relevant post-qualified experience.

Ability to deliver an existing pipeline of planning applications and strategic land promotional work, liaising closely with the Head of Planning and the wider Development team to ensure full continuity of service and advice to clients.

Maintain and develop a pipeline of planning consultancy instructions working closely with the rural, commercial, planning, valuation, residential agency and building surveying teams to optimise new business and cross-selling opportunities.

Strong communication and business development skills, an aspiration to develop their own reputation and profile and that of the team and the ability to gain the respect of client and their advisors by consistently providing insightful, innovative and highly professional advice and support.

Excellent research and analytical skill.

Excellent IT skills including use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet.

Detailed knowledge of Scottish and Local Planning Policy.

Experience of environmental assessment.

High quality consultancy skills including report and proposal writing, presentations and general communication.

Confident written and verbal communicator, able to present ideas and recommendations to clients clearly and effectively at a high level.

Personal motivation to develop individual and team profile and reputation in the marketplace for providing the highest quality of advice.
