Plant Nursery Supervisor

Job description

Nursery Supervisor
Near Ashford, Kent
£32,000-£35,000 + great benefits
Full-time, Permanent

Are you the kind of person who can spot an irrigation issue from 20 metres away? Do you get unreasonably excited about a perfectly timed propagation cycle? And can you lead a small team without losing your cool when someone forgets to label a tray? If that sounds like you… we need to talk.

I'm recruiting on behalf of a large, well-established nursery in the South East - one of the few of this scale in the region, and they're looking for a Nursery Supervisor to take the lead in their glasshouse. This is a genuinely exciting step up for someone with solid horticultural experience who loves plants, people, and a busy growing environment.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where you'll be trusted to keep young plants thriving and a small team running smoothly. You'll:

  • Oversee young plant husbandry to ensure top-quality stock
  • Follow the propagation plan - rotations, trimming, gapping, re-propping
  • Keep on top of irrigation, spraying, weeding and those all-important schedules
  • Supervise up to 8 people, giving clear instructions and keeping productivity on track
  • Handle stock control, potting prep and moving plants on at exactly the right moment
  • Use your eye for detail to reduce waste and raise standards
  • Pitch in with a portion of admin (propagation lists, labels, schedules)

About You

You'll shine in this role if you:

  • Have strong horticultural knowledge, ideally with propagation experience
  • Have supervised or led people before
  • Are organised, clear in your communication and calm under pressure
  • Can spot issues early (irrigation, plant stress, scheduling concerns)
  • Enjoy being hands-on in the glasshouse
  • Have some IT confidence for basic admin and planning tasks
  • Want a step up but still love being close to the plants

What You'll Get

  • Salary £32,000-£35,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Company pension (4% employer contribution)
  • 23 days' holiday + 8 bank holidays
  • Healthcare cash plan - claim back costs for dentists/opticians
  • Life insurance (2x salary)
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • On-site parking
  • A supportive team and full induction training
  • The chance to grow your career with one of the South East's biggest nurseries

You'll work 5 days out of 6 (Mon-Sat), 7:30am-5pm.
Seasonal peaks may mean slightly longer days - it's horticulture, after all!
