The Challenge
G’s engaged MorePeople on a retained basis to identify and appoint a new General Manager for their beetroot business, based in March.
The division had experienced a period of instability, with several interim leaders in place, and was entering a critical phase of transformation. Increased customer demand had prompted site expansion, but operational inefficiencies and capacity constraints remained. The new General Manager would be responsible for stabilising the site, shaping a long-term growth strategy, and overseeing around £20 million of planned investment to future-proof operations.
This required a rare blend of expertise - someone equally capable of hands-on operational leadership and strategic oversight, with the influencing skills to lead a team through change in a fast-paced, complex environment.

Operating on a retained search model, we partnered closely with G’s to define the role’s strategic priorities and success profile. The retained approach allowed us to dedicate time and focus to a rigorous, research-led process - giving G’s full market visibility and a consistent line of communication throughout the project.
Our executive search team mapped the market extensively across the food, fresh produce, and manufacturing sectors, focusing on Site Directors, General Managers, and Senior Operations Leaders with the right balance of technical acumen and leadership capability.
The process evolved as G’s refined their vision for the role. We adapted quickly, providing insight into market availability, candidate expectations, and benchmarking for senior talent. Despite an initial near-hire that fell through, the retained partnership ensured continuity - enabling us to pivot efficiently and re-engage the market with precision and confidence.

After a comprehensive and collaborative search, Scott Lowe was appointed as General Manager of the beetroot business. Scott brought exactly the blend of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and people leadership G’s needed to stabilise the site and lead its next phase of growth.
