We're working with a leading wholesale horticultural business based in beautiful West Sussex, and they're looking for an Assistant Technical Manager to join their friendly and knowledgeable team.

Our client is a well-established, market-leading grower supplying high-quality plants to the wholesale market across the UK. With a dedicated team and multiple nursery sites in West Sussex, they've built their reputation on innovation, quality, and teamwork.

About the Role

As Assistant Technical Manager, you'll work closely with the Lead Technical Manager to deliver all aspects of technical growing - helping ensure crops are healthy, high-quality, and grown to meet customer expectations.

Your work will include:

  • Conducting crop walks to assess plant health and identify key growing tasks
  • Supporting integrated pest management (IPM) and plant nutrition strategies
  • Getting involved in R&D and new product development projects
  • Helping plan and purchase crops and growing media
  • Building strong relationships with young plant and media suppliers
  • Maintaining quality systems and preparing for assurance audits

This is a hands-on, developmental role - ideal for someone early in their horticultural or plant science career who wants to grow into a technical or management position.

What We're Looking For

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • A genuine passion for horticulture and plant science
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving mindset
  • Good IT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Some experience in a horticultural or technical role or a qualification in Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology or Plant Science (desirable, not essential)
