PPM Mechanical Engineer

Job description

Mechanical Engineer
Manufacturing | Weekend Nights
Sleaford area, Lincolnshire
Saturday-Monday | 16:00-04:00

This is a hands-on mechanical role on a busy manufacturing site that runs hard over the weekend.

When production stops, you're the reason it starts again.
Not by shouting. By fixing it.

The job

You'll provide a solid engineering service to production, keeping equipment running, responding fast to breakdowns, and improving reliability over time.

Planned work matters here. So does fault-finding that goes beyond "it's working again, leave it".

The aim is simple.
Better availability. Better performance. Fewer repeat failures.

What you'll be doing

  • Responding quickly and safely to breakdowns and stoppages

  • Maintaining, adjusting and repairing production equipment

  • Carrying out planned maintenance and mechanical fault-finding

  • Working with gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Supporting OEE targets by fixing problems properly

  • Working with engineering leadership and external support on improvements

  • Following LO/TO, COSHH and site safety procedures without shortcuts

  • Recording all work and parts accurately in the PPM system (SAP)

  • Supporting training and safe operation of machinery

  • Contributing to energy reduction and environmental improvements

How performance is measured

  • PPMs completed properly, not tick-boxed

  • First Time Fix on breakdowns

  • Consistent safety observations and standards

What you need

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering

  • UK-recognised engineering qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong fault-finding and decision-making ability

  • Clear communication and decent written English

Useful, not essential

  • Food or protein processing machinery experience

  • Welding, ideally TIG

  • Lean or continuous improvement exposure

  • Automated machinery experience

  • SAP or CMMS familiarity

What's on offer

  • Permanent weekend nights role

  • Stable three-day working pattern

  • Well-established manufacturing site

  • A role where mechanical skills actually matter
