HSE Manager
Job description
HSE Manager | Manufacturing
Salary: £50,000
Hours: Monday - Friday, Office Hours
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to join a well-established manufacturing business.
This is a site-based leadership role, responsible for driving operational delivery of HSE standards while embedding a proactive, accountable safety culture across the facility.
We are specifically seeking candidates with experience in a manufacturing or operational environment who understand the realities of shop-floor risk management and production-led safety.
The Role
Reporting into the Manufacturing Manager, you will take ownership of all Health, Safety & Environmental activity on site, ensuring compliance, reducing risk, and supporting efficient operational performance.
You will be both strategic and hands-on, visible on the shop floor, leading investigations, improving systems, and influencing behaviours at every level of the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the site HSE strategy and continuous improvement agenda
- Driving cultural change and increasing employee engagement in safety initiatives
- Investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, conducting thorough root cause analysis
- Monitoring and reporting on key HSE performance metrics (LTI, TRIR, near-miss trends)
- Reviewing and updating risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Ensuring compliance with UK HSE and environmental legislation
- Working towards ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards
- Mentoring and developing junior HSE team members
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a senior HSE role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of UK Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
- Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations and driving root cause analysis
- A confident communicator who can influence both shop-floor teams and senior leadership
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) preferred
- Experience working towards ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 desirable
What Success Looks Like
- Reduction in Lost Time Incidents and Total Recordable Incident Rate
- Improved safety engagement and reporting culture
- Strong compliance metrics and successful audits
- Visible HSE leadership presence across operational areas
The Opportunity
This role offers the chance to make a genuine impact within a manufacturing operation that values safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
