About Our Client
Our client is growing SME with a great story to tell. They offer a range of branded and own-label products that are of the finest quality. The business has grown from humble beginnings, serving local restaurants and eateries, to supplying a number of major UK food retailers as well as online customers. They are very focused on the sustainability and social responsibility of their products - without which they wouldn't have a business. They are a relatively small, family-owned business that has made some big waves in the market place. They have an entrepreneurial spirit and are willing to try new things, but must also look after their customers to continue to grow.
About the Role
This role is all about leading the business to continue on its growth trajectory and beyond. You will utilise your commercial and marketing experience to deliver increased business across the branded and own-label business. You will work closely with key retail customers to grow accounts, whilst also looking for other routes to market. You will be able to market the brand as well as be able to work with own-label category functions to increase listings. You will be a proven leader and utilise your wider food industry experience to manage the day-to-day running of the business.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will be a proven managing director, general manager or a commercial director calibre candidate who can take a step up to be an MD. You will have a track record of delivering increased sustainable, profitable business with the major UK food retailers. You will be strategic and able to identify new opportunities within existing customers as well as new routes to market. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to lead a team to deliver results but be very hands-on and willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. The business has a relatively small team and everyone must be motivated to do the job required. You will, therefore lead by example and be visible to all of the team members. Although commercial and marketing will be your area of expertise, you will also need to have a strong understanding of operations and production to ensure the continued success of the business. Our client wants to grow, but not at the detriment to their service or quality.
To be considered for this role, you will need to have experience in the food industry supplying the major UK retailers. You will have a proven track record of delivering commercial results across sales and marketing functions. Whilst there will be a team behind you, you will be expected to work with the retailers and customers day-to-day to deliver the ambitious (but achievable) growth targets. You will need to work well with the family owners and communicate effectively. You will be a real people influencer and know what it takes to get a team working together cohesively.
