Nursery Container Grower Manager

West Midlands

The successful candidate for this Growing position will be responsible for the production of saleable stock, including planning for and overseeing potting and cultural functions. They will also aid container staff development and provide support to them, so that they thrive in an environment of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and develop the Container team, identifying personnel development requirements and ensuring delivery.

Oversee all potting activity to required quantities and deadlines, maximising efficiencies whilst maintaining high quality.

Liaise with young stock providers, calling in stock and modifying plans as necessary.

Plan for and call in production variable materials as required and in liaison with the Purchasing team.

Plan for weekly space requirements.

Provide for irrigation and crop husbandry requirements.

Work with Crop Protection Supervisor to ensure P&D and weed control requirements are met.

Contribute to the development of the Company's technical knowledge, best practise and innovation.

Ensure legislative compliance

Promote company initiatives and manage their delivery within your department.

Participate in appropriate training, and be committed to ongoing personal and professional development.

Core Skills and Attributes:

A professional horticulturist, preferably with experience in the production of HONS.

A people person, able to develop and motivate reportees.

Enthusiastic, practical and driven to succeed.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Confident IT skills - familiarity with ERP systems would be advantageous.

Able to work effectively as part of a team, actively supporting other team members, whilst also being self-motivated to work independently, without direct supervision.

Able to work accurately under pressure in a busy environment.

Innovative & creative in decision making & problem solving.
