Running for Doctors Without Borders

almost 2 years ago by Natalie Smith

MorePeople are running the Great Eastern Run on 16th October 2022, a half marathon around Peterborough City Centre.

Lunchtimes are now spent on the treadmill in the gym next door (now included as one of our many benefits working at MorePeople!) as the date is nearing.

We’ve chosen to run for the charity Doctors Without Borders;

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. They offer assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. MSF was founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors and is currently working in over 70 countries worldwide with a movement of more than 67,000 people.

The Ukraine crisis has really highlighted the importance of emergency aid in times of need and conflict when normal processes are no longer able to work and existing healthcare systems are at breaking point. Their work includes treating people wounded by conflict, caring for malnourished children and helping pregnant women safely welcome new life in uncertain times.

Due to the unique way that MSF is funded, most donations are unrestricted and can be used wherever the need is greatest, allowing them to get to emergencies quickly and respond to the ever-changing needs on the ground. MSF relies heavily on these unrestricted donations to carry out their work.
