How Video is Shaping the Future of Recruitment: Our Experience with PVS Media
Recently, I had the pleasure of joining the Making Video Your Business podcast, hosted by our long-time partners at PVS Media. We’ve worked with Chris, Matt and the team for several years now, where they produce The MorePeople Podcast, with over 60 episodes so far, and have helped us create a wide range of video content that supports our brand, our clients, and our candidates. They’ve got to know us really well over the years and have a strong understanding of what we are trying to achieve.
I thought it would be worth noting some key takeaways from the latest episode, along with emphasising the impact of video and its power in the world of recruitment.
Shining a Light on Overlooked Sectors
As you may know, we specialise in recruitment across agriculture, horticulture, food, fresh produce and garden retail. These are sectors that impact everyone, from the food we eat to the plants we buy, however, they often lie under the radar. Through our podcast, we’ve been able to showcase the incredible work being done across the supply chain, while giving industry professionals a platform to share their passion, science, and technology.
Why We Invest in Video
Recruitment at its core is about people and connections. Traditionally, that’s been through conversations, CVs, and interviews. But adding video has given us a new dimension. It helps our exposure and branding a huge amount. Clients and candidates see our faces and hear our voices frequently across socials, whether it be sharing shorts to Instagram or the full episode on LinkedIn. Not just when we have a vacancy.
Additionally, we always emphasise the importance of face-to-face, whether it's meeting that client for a coffee, or even hopping on a Teams call with a prospective candidate. It is the same in podcasting, as video brings out personality and culture, in a way that any written email, document, or letter can't.
PVS provide us with a variety of content formats. As touched upon in the previous point, we get full episodes, three sets of short form, graphics for socials and more. We utilise these materials to produce blogs too, ensuring our audience is reached as much as possible. The feedback we’ve had from guests and viewers has been incredibly positive.
The Role of Video in Recruitment
Looking ahead, maybe video will increasingly become part of the recruitment process itself. Imagine candidates submitting their CV with a short video, highlighting not just their skills but also their personality and cultural fit. For employers, that could be invaluable in making better hiring decisions.
Of course, quality matters. Just like our podcast, poor sound, bad lighting, or awkward framing can undermine the message. It is so important to get your brand image right. PVS do a brilliant job at understanding this and tailoring their services to reflect our branding in the best possible way.
Lessons from Going Visual
In the podcast, I shared my three top tips for anyone considering video:
1. Practice! You get better the more you do it.
2. Patience. Give yourself and your audience time to adjust.
3. Feedback. Review your work critically, learn from it and improve.
These apply not just to video, but to recruitment and business more broadly.
We see video as more than just marketing. it’s becoming part of the recruitment toolkit and PVS Media have been a trusted partner in helping us make that a reality. They’ve given us the confidence to bring ideas to life, the tools to reach wider audiences, and the polish to present our industry in the best possible way.
