An excellent opportunity for an ambitious Development Surveyor required to join expanding multi-disciplinary, regional development advisory and agency team based in Scotland.

The firm advises clients on development opportunities, whether they are public or private, house builder or developer. The professional team of planning and development experts cover the main regions in the country where there is forecast housing growth, including the South East, South West, Midlands, North, East Anglia and Scotland working closely with valuation, residential/new homes, rural and commercial business lines.

The Job:

Combining strategic planning, development consultancy, valuation and agency skills, primarily in the residential and mixed use sectors.

Promoting land in conjunction with Planning team through the strategic planning process on behalf of landowners, house builders, promoters and investors, securing allocations, in-principle and detailed consents, negotiating Section 75 agreements, dealing with planning and legal appeals and other dispute processes.

Promoting potential development land to house builders, developers and promoters and/or negotiating to acquire development rights from landowners, advising on sale or purchase structures including option and promotion agreement, off-market and open market sales campaigns, negotiating commercial terms and supporting solicitors through to legal conclusion.

Working alongside specialist independent consultants to provide development consultancy and valuation advice in connection with monitoring, price notices and dispute resolution processes in relation to greenfield land values, standard and abnormal development costs, infrastructure and planning gain costs.

The Candidate:

Professionally qualified MRICS/MRTPI and previous post-qualified experience.

Ability to take on a pipeline of development agreements and sale campaigns, working closely with the Head of Office and Head of Planning to ensure full continuity of service and advice to clients.

Maintaining and develop a pipeline of advisory and agency instructions, working closely with the rural, commercial, planning, valuation, residential agency and building surveying teams to optimise new business and cross-selling opportunities.

Strong communication and business development skills, an aspiration to develop their own reputation and profile and that of the team and the ability to gain the respect of client and their advisors by consistently providing insightful, innovative and highly professional advice and support.

Excellent research and analytical skills

Excellent IT skills including use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet.

Detailed knowledge of Scottish and Local Planning Policy.

Extensive knowledge of the Scottish residential development market.

Good contacts and relationships with national and regional house builders, promoters and investors active in the Scottish market.

High quality consultancy skills including report and proposal writing, presentations and general communication.

Confident written and verbal communicator, able to present ideas and recommendations to clients clearly and effectively at a high level.

Personal motivation to develop individual and team profile and reputation in the marketplace for providing the highest quality of advice.
