Multi-Site Operations Manager | Horticulture / FMCG
Based across Formby and Thornton
Salary: £50,000 + performance-based bonus
About the Business
We're working exclusively with a family-run horticultural business that's been growing since 1985. Supplying high-quality bedding plants to independent garden centres and small retailers across the UK, the company operates across two main sites in Formby and Thornton, with a smaller satellite site supporting peak seasonal work.
With the current site lead stepping away, the business is looking for a practical, proactive, and people-focused Operations Manager to help drive consistency, efficiency, and accountability across both locations.
This is a pivotal time to join, a period of real positive change, with the opportunity to step in, shape operational delivery, and support long-term growth.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position, responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of daily operations across both growing sites.
You'll be coordinating people, production, logistics, and planting schedules to ensure the right things happen at the right time and that both sites are working in sync.
This role requires a mix of clear communication, calm under pressure, and the ability to balance the seasonal pace of horticultural production.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day operations across Formby and Thornton, working closely with site supervisors
* Oversee planting, packing, and husbandry operations, ensuring efficiency and quality
* Collaborate with Directors to align production with commercial and seasonal plans
* Support team recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance development
* Drive improvements in workflow, productivity, and resource management
* Identify operational risks, solve logistical challenges, and promote a solutions-focused culture
* Explore and help implement new processes, tools, and automation where applicable
What We're Looking For
* Experience in horticulture, fresh produce, or fast-paced operational environments (e.g. FMCG, manufacturing, warehousing)
* Strong leadership and people management skills, ideally across multi-site teams
* Highly organised with the ability to work at pace, stay calm under pressure, and think on your feet
* Commercially aware, practical, and committed to continuous improvement
* Full UK driving licence and own transport (travel between sites is essential)
This role is ideal for someone looking to bring structure, clarity, and energy to a fast-paced, people-first environment. If you thrive in seasonal operations, enjoy solving problems, and want to make a difference in a business where you'll be valued, this is your next move.
