HR Manager

We're working with a well-established, family-owned fresh produce business based just outside the Preston area. Known for their strong values, long-standing relationships, and supportive culture, they're now looking to bring an HR Manager on board to support their busy operations.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, values working in a close-knit environment, and understands the fast pace and unique challenges of sectors like fresh produce, farming, agriculture or food manufacturing.

The business is open-minded - whether you're already an experienced HR Manager looking for a new challenge, or you're ready to take that next step up in your career, they're keen to support someone with the right attitude, drive and desire to make a difference.

About the Role

This is a key role within the business - you'll be the go-to person for anything people-related. It's important that colleagues feel comfortable approaching you, and that you're able to build strong working relationships across all levels.

You'll be involved in everything from day-to-day HR support to shaping the longer-term people strategy. There's real variety in the role and plenty of opportunity to get stuck in.

Main Responsibilities

  • Partnering with the Senior Leadership Team to provide strategic HR input, contribute to business planning, and lead workforce strategy across the business
  • Delivering a proactive and hands-on HR service, managing day-to-day operations across multiple departments, and ensuring compliance with UK employment law and ethical standards (e.g. Sedex/SMETA)
  • Leading on all employee relations matters, including absence management, performance, disciplinary and grievance issues, and supporting employee wellbeing
  • Coaching and supporting managers and supervisors on all aspects of people management, performance, development, and team engagement
  • Overseeing recruitment, training and development, reward and recognition, and the management of seasonal and agency workers, ensuring all policies and procedures are legally compliant and effectively implemented.

Required

  • CIPD Level 5 or higher
  • A background in fresh produce, food manufacturing, farming or similar environments
  • Confidence working in a fast-moving, operational setting
  • Familiarity with GLAA regulations, working time and driver hours, or SMETA/SEDEX standards
  • A people-focused approach - approachable, fair, and supportive.

Location

Preston area (onsite role)
