Trainee Propagator
Sussex
£DOE + Full Training

Recently qualified in horticulture. Got hands-on nursery experience and ready to grow your career?

If you're ready to build a career and want to learn from one of the UK's most respected commercial growing teams, this could be the opportunity for which you've been waiting.

This is a full-time, permanent role with structured training and mentoring, ideal for someone who's studied horticulture with a focus on commercial production or has practical experience in a nursery setting.

The Role

As a Trainee Propagator, you'll join a busy, forward-thinking nursery producing over 3 million pots a year across two sites. You'll work closely with the Lead Propagator and wider team to learn every aspect of the propagation process-from seed sowing and cuttings to stock plant care and crop hygiene.

You'll be supported to build your technical knowledge, develop leadership skills, and gain experience with the latest propagation techniques and systems.

Day-to-Day You'll Be:

  • Assisting with propagation tasks including sowing, trimming, watering, and weaning
  • Learning how to assess crop health and environmental needs.
  • Supporting the maintenance of stock plants and propagation areas
  • Keeping accurate records and learning to use production systems.
  • Working safely and maintaining clean, organised workspaces
  • Attending team meetings and contributing to a collaborative, supportive environment

What You'll Need

  • A qualification in horticulture (with a focus on commercial production) or hands-on experience working in a commercial nursery.
  • A genuine interest in plant propagation and a career in commercial horticulture
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and good attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset
  • PA1 certification is a bonus-but not essential (training will be provided)

What You'll Get

  • A structured training programme with mentoring from experienced growers
  • Opportunities to progress into more senior roles as you develop.
  • A friendly, knowledgeable team that values curiosity and initiative
  • A chance to be part of a business producing over 1.25 million young plants annually.
